Gor Mahia’s dominance in the famous “Mashemeji” derby was once again witnessed at Kasarani stadium today when they humiliated their arch rivals AFC Leopards 3-1.
Striker Nicholas Kipkirui had a good day in the office – netting a brace and setting up a third goal for Jacques Tuyisenge.
In an end to end action packed match it took Kipkirui just 23 minutes to break the deadlock with a neat tap-in – thanks to a powerful header by Tuyisenge which troubled Leopards keeper Owade.
Kipkirui would then break again in second half to hammer the second nail in Leopards coffin in the 61st minute after picking a neat pass from midfielder Kenneth Muguna.
Not done yet, Kipkirui was on many lips four minutes later as he burst on the left flank and into the box to pull a cheeky loop over Leopards keeper.
What would have been a hat-trick for him hit the crossbar before Tuyisenge pounced on the ball to nod in the third goal and what would be the final nail in the Leopards coffin.
Despite their hard push for goals, Leopards had to wait until the 87th minute to benefit from a poor back pass by Joash Onyango – Leopards striker Oburu made no mistake to score their only consolation goal of the game.
3-1 it ended and with just three games to go, Gor Mahia are eight points clear at the top of the table and need just one more point to wrap it up for the season.
