When the 2020/2021 CAF Champions Leagues draw was concluded in Cairo, it was least expected that the Kenya Champions Gor Mahia FC will once in its lifetime “re-unite” with most celebrated and former striker Jacques Tuyisenge in the early stages of the African famous League.
Tuyisenge joined the Rwandese champions APR FC early this year after his short stint in Angola with Petro Atletico came to an end.
But the first game scheduled in late November will be much exciting when Jacques meets his one-time co-striker Nicholas Kipkirui, each on the opposing side.
Their combination on the opponent territory was termed as the best and lethal, crushing opponents at will in both the local and continental arena.
The two lads’ great performance was applauded during CAF Confederation Cup group stages match against the Continent champions Zamalek in 2018. Nicholas Kipkirui would announce his arrival by scoring against Egypt’s feared team as Tuyisenge opener captivated the morale of the K’Ogalo fraternity, coming behind twice to win the game 4-2 at Moi Sports Center Kasarani.
Jacques joined Gor in 2016 while Kip came in almost two (2) years later (October 26th, 2018). The two forwards formed a great coordination partner, working under Dylan Kerr and Hassan Oktay.
In their combined duty at Gor, crashed, humiliated and embarrassed arch-rival AFC Leopard at will winning all games against the Leopards.
The two clubs have more similarities as both have won the local league 18 times in their respective countries.
Whatever happens in the two-legged match will determine the fate of Gor Mahia in CAF tournament. A victory for Gor will book them a slot in a second-round ticket against the winner in the match between Algeria’s CR Belouizdad and Libya’s El Nasr.
