Kenya’s undisputed Champions Gor Mahia FC landed safely in Algiers ahead of the CAF Champions League match against their host CR Belouizdad slated for Saturday 26th December 2020 at 10.15 pm.
The travel faced challenges but eventually all plans to reach destination were accomplished.
The 12 hours trip saw the team travel from Nairobi to Doha – Qatar before connecting to Algiers by chattered plane organized by the Algerian Governments Authorities.
The club Team Manager Jolawi Obondo said the tough journey was over and what remains was to showcase what the team is capable of.
“We have had a good journey with improved service from Qatar Airways. The stop-over was less than two hours in Doha. The boys are upbeat and we will take some rest before having a feel of the pitch later, probably the same time the match will be played tomorrow,” Obondo said
K’Ogalo advanced to the First Round of the CAF Champions League after eliminating Rwandan side APR in a thrilling return leg played at Nyayo Stadium on 5th December 2020. The game ended 3-1 making Gor win with 4-2 goal aggregate (2-1 lead by APR when they hosted K’Ogalo in Kigali).
Gor will play the seven-time Algerian champions on Saturday at 10.45pm, and leave the North African country at 5.10am on December 28 on another evacuation flight to Doha.
Stand-in coach Sammy Omollo remains confident the team is capable of delivering the desired results.
