Gor Mahia partner with Patriot

Club pens five-year deal with vodka and gin manufacturer to earn Sh5 for every bottle sold

Kisumu based state-corporation Agro Chemicals and Food Company have partnered with reigning Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in a mutually beneficial pact through their flagship spirit products Patriot Gin and Patriot Vodka.

The two entities have penned a five-year deal in which Agro-Chemical and Food Company will use Gor Mahia’s vast fan base and branches to market their spirits while K’Ogalo earn Sh5 for every bottle sold.

As an act of good faith, the company has advanced Sh 2 million to K’Ogalo to help the club prepare for an upcoming trip to DR Congo where they are scheduled to play DC Motema Pembe in Confederation Cup group stage play-off.

Gor Mahia have struggled with player wages and in funding other activities since the exit of their erstwhile shirt sponsor Sportpesa. Chairman Ambrose Rachier urged the team fans to drink the gin and vodka ‘enthusiastically but responsibly’ to enable the club reap from the pact.

“I know we have many fans who can be patriotic. We had similar partnerships with some bread companies and our fans consumed the product well but the companies lacked capacity to supply. I know our fans will drink enthusiastically,” he said during yesterday’s launch

“We have not had cases of hooliganism in the past five years and therefore I urge the fans not to start now even after drinking Patriot. Just celebrate loudly but do not harass anyone,” Rachier added

Agro Chemicals and Food Company Chief Executive Officer Ashok Agrawal hopes the partnership will place their product at the very top of spirit drinking chain being that they supply most of manufacturers with spirits.

“Football is not new to us since we have in the past sponsored a team in the top league and second division. This time, however, we decided to go for a partnership we believe works for both the football team and the company. That is why we chose Gor Mahia,” he said

“All manufacturers in the spirits market buy from us so we decided to also venture into the making of end products. We have state of the art plants with capacity to produce four times of current output. The Vodka and Gin are best quality in the market but we urge responsible drinking,” he added

Gor Mahia skipper Kenneth Muguna lauded the timing of the deal and urged fans to take it up so that player sufferings can stop. “We have persevered as the playing unit and I’m glad this deal has been signed. My prayer is that fans consume responsibly but enthusiastically as the chairman said so that the club earn enough for sustainability Muguna said
