Gor Mahia win in Malawi, sail to next stage of CAF competition

Boniface Oluoch’s heroics ensured that Gor Mahia progressed to the next round of the CAF Champions League by eliminating Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets in Malawi today.

The Malawians had taken the lead in the second half to tie the game 1-1 on aggregate. They were then awarded a soft penalty in the 88th minute and Oluoch proved to be the hero as he saved the penalty.

Neither of team was able to get the goal that would take them directly to the next round and the game ended one nil in favour of the Malawians.

Bernard Ondiek, Humphrey Mieno, Haron Shakava and Boniface Omondi converted their spot kicks while Boniface Oluoch saved one before the Malawians blasted their final penalty against the crossbar.

Gor Mahia next take on the winner between Nigeria’s Lobi Stars and Cameroon’s UMS de Loum – and by the time this match report was published, Lobi Stars were leading 1-0 at home. The Cameroonians carried a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg match.
