Match preview: Mathare United vs. Gor Mahia

The first leg battle may have been a shared duel, but the team Mathare United host on Friday is completely different monster. The newly crowned KPL Top 8 champions, Gor Mahia, are out to secure a treble thus the focus set on the league march is nothing Coach Stanley Okumbi’s boys would be pleased to challenge.

Since their acquisition during the mid-season transfers, Joseph Njuguna and Danny Sserenkuma have stamped authority in their midfield and forward roles respectively, constantly winning starting roles in Coach Zdravko Logarusic’s squads. Their partnership with wonder boy Rama Salim and the rejuvenated Antony Akumu, topped with the experienced Moses Odhiambo orchestra, is so far the most dreaded attack building and finishing pack in the KPL league at the moment.

Attackers Andrew Tololwa, Jesse Were and Francis Ouma like their defenders have their own worries, and will surely have to toil extra if the slum boys are to salvage a win from the encounter. The defense line of Anguyo Ivan, Mosoti Donald and makeshift left full back David Owino, covering the league’s current goal keepers’ pack leader and Gor Mahia captain Jerry Onyango, is a fearless battle machine.

The Croatian boasted recently boasted of a strong reserve bench and trust him to bring on Kevin Omondi, Edwin Lavatsa and Itubu Imbem to sting more misery to an already suffering Mathare back line.
